SEC filings search: find the original company document

Maintained by 蓝星工作室 (Lanxing Studio) · Updated

A filing search is most useful when it ends at the issuer’s original document. Shield provides company search and source links; EDGAR remains the place to confirm the filing record.

A simple search sequence

  1. Enter a ticker or company name in Shield’s search. Select the intended issuer rather than relying only on a familiar brand name.
  2. Open Announcements & news, or use Earnings & filings on the market page. Narrow the document type and time window where the controls are available.
  3. Open the original SEC link and match the issuer and document identifier. Use EDGAR directly if you need documents outside the displayed selection.

Keep an identification note

Record the company, ticker, form, filing date, report period and original URL together. Tickers identify listed securities; an issuer may have more than one share class. The company’s CIK helps identify the filer in EDGAR when names are similar or a ticker has changed.

Why a result may appear to be missing

First broaden the date range, then remove a document-type filter. Check whether the company panel is still fetching or reports a source failure. A company search match and successful retrieval of all its disclosures are separate steps. If the original source contains a document that Shield does not show, send its URL through Contact & corrections.

Read amendments alongside the earlier filing

An /A suffix identifies an amended form. Compare it with the earlier document instead of treating it as an unrelated reporting period. Read the amendment’s scope before replacing figures in a comparison.

Not sure which form to select? See 10-K, 10-Q and 8-K differences. To check the numbers after finding a report, use the financial statement checklist.
