Gold price alerts: set a threshold and check the source
A price alert can answer a narrow question: has the observed gold quote approached a level you chose? The source timestamp and the rule definition matter as much as the number.
Set a level in the same unit as the quote
- Open the watchlist section and choose the supported gold spot series.
- Read the displayed unit and currency before entering a threshold.
- Choose your own level and save the rule.
- Review the resulting status and source link when the page checks the next observation.
Understand the rule before using the color
Shield’s price-proximity rule uses a 2% watch band around a user’s level. That band is a product setting for displaying proximity. It does not estimate a probability of a future move or establish a universally important gold price. Read the methodology for the full rule and freshness checks.
Check which gold series you selected
The spot quote used by the alert and a gold futures contract are separate observations. Confirm the source and series name before comparing the alert with a quote from another application. If they disagree, first compare timestamps, units and instruments rather than assuming that one page has a newer market event.
Keep the page’s notification limits in mind
In-page alerts operate while the console is open. Optional sound needs to be enabled by the user. This version does not send email. Guest watchlists and review history remain in the browser; the account controls describe the saved features available after sign-in.
What a stale or unavailable quote means
A source interruption or an old observation can prevent a current price comparison. Do not read a missing value as zero or a quiet alert as confirmation that the market stayed within the chosen level. Open the original source when you need to verify the observation.
For the futures distinction, use the futures quote guide. For a source or display problem, send the symbol and original link through Contact & corrections.
