OFR funding stress monitor

Product documentation · Updated

The Shield OFR funding stress monitor shows the funding category contribution from the Office of Financial Research Financial Stress Index. It adds funding-market context alongside equity volatility and Treasury yields.

Funding contribution versus the overall index

The OFR FSI combines 33 market variables across credit, equity valuation, funding, safe assets and volatility. Shield displays its funding category contribution, rather than presenting that component as the full index. The funding category relates to how easily financial institutions can finance their activities.

The contribution is a broad stress proxy. It is not a dollar amount, an interest rate, an estimate of any individual institution's liquidity, or a direct Treasury-market depth measure. The overall OFR index is centered around its historical average; the funding contribution must be read in the context of that methodology.

What you can see in the dashboard

Open the financial risk dashboard and choose OFR funding in the chart selector. Compare available observations over 30 or 90 calendar days, check the latest as-of date, and open the original source. This view does not combine the funding contribution with VIX to produce a crisis score.

Publication lag and rule status

OFR publishes the index with a two-business-day data lag. Shield checks this source every six hours, so a recent source check can still show an earlier observation date. Data that is too old is marked stale. A delayed or unavailable series is not proof that stress is low.

There is no default Watch or Alert threshold for the funding contribution. An Observed label means a value is available; it is not an all-clear assessment. For indicators with explicit thresholds, see the VIX volatility alert dashboard guide and quarterly free cash flow decline alerts.
